Although I love to run I also am deeply connected with music. Before I had running I had music and it helped to get through alot and also I listen to music today as a way to soothe my soul.
So I am constantly looking for that next musician, band or act that I fall in love with daily. I found my music through a variety of sorts but usually I catch them before they go mainstream and as we all know most great music isnt on the radio at all.
So here are my top 5 great male singers that I think you should listen to.
#1 Marc Broussard
Marc Broussard as described by wiki is a a mix of funk, blues, R&B, rock, and pop, matched with distinct Southern roots. I have been listening to him since the later part of 2004 and he voice, range and passion is something you could only dream about. His first major album Carencro is a testament to his hometown and is a timeless masterpiece of a an album. Marc has the ability to not only sing with power, but with range and rasp. I recently bought his live cd HERE and immediately felt that sought after connection to his voice again. With live versions of ”Home” ” Let Me Leave” and nwly “Paradis” you will be wondering how you never found him sooner. http://www.marcbroussard.com
#2 Allen Stone
Allen stone is the best Pure soul music you have ever heard. I guarantee it. Although people describe him as a soul and R&B singer, he sees himself as a “hippie with soul”. Allen stone has had a fair amount of success this year and I see him at some point not touring as much and probably going huge one day. Until that day comes go see him play live and watch this guy sing. Most people who I introduce to Allen Stone cant believe he is white or are confused on who is singing the song. But Allen Stone has a gift that will shock most and keep music heads like myself coming back for more. His recent album HERE is a great album that highlights all of his hits but I think his live and covers set him apart. From Stevie Wonder to Bob Marley Allen stone is a true soul singer. http://www.allenstone.com
#3 Ernie Halter
Ernie halter is one of the best songwriters on the planet in my opinion. He has a very subtle, soft and soulful voice that invites you to listen to every word he sings. I would describe his songwriting as precise, honest and inviting. As I listen to Ernie Halter records I never hit skip as his songs flow to the next and you just get wrapped in his songs. Ernie is also great at using social media to constantly connect, experiment and connect with his listeners. His last album Franklin & Vermont HERE will immediate grab your soul and have you listening from top to bottom on repeat! http://www.erniehalter.com
#4 Ari Hest
I try to capture how I feel on how someone sings but describing it but Ari Hest makes this very hard for me. His voice, tune and control are impeccable. His voice has a very calming nature to it and the notes he sings are crips, full of life and seem effortless at the same time. Ari Hest sings a song called “I’ve got you” which will be below, that melts hearts. He is the person that you hear sing and you wonder if I could sign like that my life would be great.. You can find his albums HERE. http://www.arihest.com
#5 Justin Nozuka
Justin Nozuka is probably the hardest person on this list to see live or get information for. I was fortunate a few years ago to see him play at the HOB in Houston and meet him. He tours a lot in Europe but when he comes to the US try and catch him. So who is Justin Nozuka he is a American-Canadian song writer who has been writing songs since the age of 12. I think Justin Nozuka’s best attributes is that he writes beautifully crafted songs that are deeply rooted in troubling issues ie abuse, guilt and solidarity. His songs make you feel like you are in a story and you are getting led through them page by page. When i tried to find some more info on him lately it looks like he is in the creative process. For someone like Nozuka that could take years but it will be worth the wait. His first album Holly is a gem packed with songs that never quit. Buy it HERE http://www.justinnozuka.com
And I did miss plenty of people out on the market that I love. I look forward to doing another top 5 for male and doing a top 5 female led list soon as well. I just thought that I would share some much that I feel is worthy of the press.
Enjoy the list. Support real music!
